Infiniti Inspires with QX Sport Concept Crossover at Paris Motor Show

This week at the 2016 Paris Motor Show, Nissan Motor’s Infiniti premium car brand presented a matte grey QX Sport Inspiration concept SUV that rides on larger 21-in. wheels and emphasizes the brand’s smooth futuristic SUV design language. The new QX Sport Inspiration concept crossover may herald design cues for Infiniti’s next 2018 QX50 compact premium SUV while carrying over elegant, aerodynamic sports car and coupe looks, which has been observed among other crossover debuts at the Paris show.

Infiniti’s design language of “Powerful Elegance” can be seen in the front end of the concept that takes inspiration from the Q60 compact premium car with new taut lines, rakish carlike silhouette, and a larger chrome framed double-arch grille and bold Infiniti logo. The QX Sport Inspiration concept sits on muscular haunches and features a high visual center of gravity and swept-back low-slung roof that ends in a spoiler. Windows share lean aerodynamic prowess with trapezoid rear side windows. Human eye-shaped lamps highlight front corner panels.

Inside, contemporary molded seats that feature angled rear buckets retain a comfortable roominess and are done in black and white with tan accents as well as a new dark brown leather for the Paris Motor Show. A recessed step on both sides aids entry and exit, while the floating 4-seat layout with a possible fifth rear center seat conveys a feeling of modern openness, according to a statement from Infiniti officials.

Infiniti’s QX Sport Inspiration SUV, which initially debuted at the Beijing Auto Show earlier this year, also shares signature elements with some of the recent models that have kept concept design cues (including the crescent-cut D pillar), including the Infiniti Q30 and QX30 small models and Q60 compact. Another news highlight is that the 2018 QX50 is likely to be one of the first of Infiniti’s SUVs to be powered by the brand’s new 2.0-liter 4-cylinder VC (variable compression) turbodiesel engine.
