Nasdaq leads stocks gains as Tesla earnings push tech higher

The Nasdaq Composite (^IXIC) is leading stock gains Thursday morning, moving as high as 0.6% at the market open. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (^DJI) dips by nearly 0.3% at the start of the trading day.

Yahoo Finance markets and data editor Jared Blikre checks out the market action after the opening bell as the tech sector ticks higher on Tesla's third quarter earnings results. The EV maker's stock is by over 16% this morning.

A lot in the earning space.

But today we are seeing the Dow down about 2/10 of a percent or about 100 points.

Not a big deal there.

NASDAQ Just coming off the worst day in six weeks.

Let's take a take a look at what's been happening this week, so I'll do a four day chart.

You can see down about 6/10 of a percent for the week and then the Russell 2000 still waiting for that first print there.

But that was down five days now.

I did mention bonds in the dollar, for those are taking a little bit of a reprieve today, just kind of edging to the downside a little bit.

That's tenure.

Tino Yield.

Here is the US Dollar index and there you see, that's down about a quarter of a percent.

So no pressure from those two markets today and we're taking a look at the sector action consumer discretionary.

That is a Tesla story.

XL Y is up 2% tech, also getting a booster up about a third of a percent utilities taken up the caboose.

That's down by 45 basis points, and I did want to take a quick look over the NASDAQ 100 take a look at Tesla having its best day since April and I'll give you a year to date.

Look there.

You can see just about climbing back to the unchanged line for the year.

Finally, I want to leave you with the ongoing saga in silver.

Uh, we are seeing that up another 1.72% just clawing back some of those small losses from yesterday.

So not a record, but very close.
