Yahoo Finance Honey Boo Boo and family pay tribute to Anna 'Chickadee' Cardwell: 'My heart is completely broken'
The reality star, who was diagnosed with adrenal carcinoma in January, died at 29 on Saturday.
Alana "Honey Boo Boo" Thompson is breaking her silence following the recent death of her older sister, Anna "Chickadee" Cardwell.
“This is one post I wish I didn’t have to make,” Thompson wrote to her followers on Sunday afternoon. “Last night we all surrounded Anna with love & let her know it was okay to go. Unfortunately around 11pm Anna took her last breath. Anna was in so much pain last night but now as a family we all know she is at peace now.”
She continued, “I really don’t know what to say as my heart is completely broken. Watching my 29 year old sister this last year battle this horrible disease hasn’t been easy. Anna was a fighter & still is. Lord please wrap your arms around her 2 babies & our family as the next couple of days will make this all a reality.”
Directing the remainder of the post to her sister, the 18-year-old reality star said she was grateful to be present for her sister’s last day, adding, “I would’ve loved for you to get to see me graduate college but i know you will forever cheer me on in heaven! We will all make sure your legacy lives on forever. And i promise to always make sure to celebrate our birthday like you never left! The sky looks a little bit different today. We will always love you Anna.”
Cardwell, the eldest daughter of reality TV star "Mama June" Shannon, appeared alongside her family members on TLC's Toddlers and Tiaras, and then on the family's spin-off Here Comes Honey Boo Boo. Cardwell later became a mother to two daughters, Kaitlyn, 11, and Kylee, 8.
News broke in March of this year that Cardwell had been diagnosed with stage 4 adrenal carcinoma in her liver, kidney, and lung. Four months later, her mother confirmed the diagnosis to be terminal.

Alana Thompson, Anna CardwellShannon announced Cardwell’s death on Sunday, sharing that she died peacefully while surrounded by family after “one hell of a fight for 10 months.” Other family members have since chimed in to voice their grief, including Shannon’s husband, Justin Stroud, the step-father to her four girls.
“Please keep our family in your prayers as we lost one of our angels last night,” Stroud wrote on Instagram. “She passed away last night in our home peacefully with the people that was important to her. Please be respectful and we will keep y’all updated with everything. We love you Anna Banana.”
Jessica “Chubbs” Shannon, Cardwell’s younger sister, shared her own post, writing, “It’s hard to think that my sister is gone she was so young and had a bright future ahead of her. She will always be with us and we love and miss her already !!”
She also asked fans to keep the family, especially Cardwell’s daughters, in their prayers. “Anna I love you and just know we got Katilyn and Kylee for you they will be taken care of,” she finished.
Their younger sister Lauryn “Pumpkin” Efird also remembered Cardwell with a post on her Instagram Story, writing, “Fly high sweet angel,” while sharing multiple photos of her sister throughout the cancer journey.
