Gas prices fell over the past week, with drops in cities across British Columbia and Atlantic Canada.

The average cost per litre of regular fuel in cities nationwide fell 1.3 cents between July 11 and July 18, according to data from Kalibrate. The biggest price breaks came in Abbotsford, B.C., followed by Drummondville, Que. and Vancouver. Atlantic Canada also saw price drops, particularly in cities in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador. Drivers in Sarnia, Ont. saw the biggest gain, followed by Sudbury, Ont.

The latest data come as slower growth in gasoline prices helped slow inflation in Canada. The Consumer Price Index fell more than analysts expected in June to 2.7 per cent, driven by the drop in gas prices, according to Statistics Canada. On an annual basis, gas prices increased 0.4 per cent in June, a slower pace than the previous month, which saw prices rise 5.6 per cent. Statistics Canada noted that the slower pace of growth last month coincided with the OPEC+ decision to extend most of its oil production cuts into 2025.
