US, South Korea, Japan unveil new team to monitor North Korea sanctions
The United States, South Korea and Japan on Wednesday announced the launch of a new multinational team to monitor the enforcement of sanctions against North Korea after Russia and China thwarted monitoring activities at the United Nations. The mechanism, named the Multilateral Sanctions Monitoring Team, has been introduced after Russia in March rejected the annual renewal of a U.N. panel of experts that had over the past 15 years overseen the implementation of sanctions aimed at curbing North Korea's nuclear and missile programs.

UK inflation drops to 1.7% - well below target for first time since 2021
UK inflation has eased to 1.7%, dipping well below the Bank of England target for the first time since 2021, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS). The Bank of England (BoE) has been trying to bring inflation down by keeping interest rates higher. It recently trimmed the base borrowing rate to 5% and today's inflation figure is expected to increase the likelihood of further cuts - welcome news for people with mortgages.

EU won't pull back UN troops from south Lebanon, Austrian minister says
European Union countries that contribute to U.N. peacekeeping force UNIFIL in Lebanon have no intention of pulling back from the south of the country despite Israeli calls to do so, Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg said. Since an Israeli ground operation against Hezbollah militants began on Oct. 1, UNIFIL positions have come under fire and two Israeli tanks burst through the gates of one of its bases, the U.N. says. Five peacekeepers have been injured.

UK's FCA launches review into certain insurance payments
The Financial Conduct Authority has begun a review of Britain's premium finance market, amid fears that consumers who borrow to pay for motor and home insurance may not be receiving fair or competitive deals, as prices across the sector continue to rise. Premium finance enables more than 20 million people in the UK to pay for insurance in instalments, with the average yearly rate on the amount of money borrowed ranging between 20 to 30%. As part of its market study, the FCA said it would assess how well customers are made aware of their financing options and the role of commission in their transactions.

Italian navy ship with migrants arrives in Albania's port
An Italian ship carrying a first group of migrants to be processed in Albania arrived in the port of Shengjin on Wednesday morning, setting in motion a controversial plan to process thousands of asylum seekers abroad. Italy has built two reception centres in Albania, the first such deal involving a European Union nation diverting migrants to a non-EU country in an effort to deter irregular arrivals. The Libra, an Italian navy ship, docked at the former navy port Shengjin, Reuters footage showed.
