US Army Tanks Arrive in Latvia for NATO Atlantic Resolve

US tanks arrived in Latvia on Wednesday, February 8, as part of NATO’s ongoing Atlantic Resolve operation to deter Russian forces in the Baltic region.

This footage shows armored vehicles near Latvia’s capital, Riga.

US troops originally stationed in Fort Carson, Colorado, arrived in Latvia’s Camp Adazi on February 5 for a 9-month rotation, according to a US Army press release. They will train with their Latvian counterparts in a variety of joint exercises during their stay.

Latvia is not the only country engaging in escalated military exercises in recent weeks as part of Atlantic Resolve. On February 7, over 1,000 NATO troops from the Czech Republic, Belgium, France, Germany, Croatia, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Norway arrived in Lithuania to form a multi-nation German-led battalion, which would hopefully act as a bulwark against Russia following the country’s annexation of Crimea in 2014 and the occupation of Georgian territory since 2008.
