Suspected Tornado Reported in Florida's Volusia County

Police in New Smyrna Beach, just south of Daytona Beach on Florida’s east coast, reported a possible tornado on Monday, August 2, as strong thunderstorms prompted flood warnings from the National Weather Service.

The line of storms was “nearly stationary” and could bring wind gusts of up to 50 mph, the National Weather Service said.

Video posted on social media by the New Smyrna Beach Police Department shows a rotating funnel cloud, but the tornado had not yet been confirmed by meteorologists at the time of writing. Some tree damage was reported, police said. Credit: New Smyrna Beach Police Department via Storyful
