Stocks shaky ahead of first batch of Big Tech earnings

US stocks (^DJI, ^IXIC, ^GSPC) initially opened in positive territory before reversing course shortly after Tuesday's market open. Equity markets are preparing for the beginning of Big Tech earnings season, with Alphabet (GOOG, GOOGL) and Tesla (TSLA) reporting results after the closing bell.

Seana Smith and Madison Mills observe the movements in the major market averages and sectors following the opening bell.

That's opening bell here on Wall Street.

You're watching Morning Brief brought to you by invest.

Go.

Let's do a check of the markets as there's lots of excitement playing on both midtown and downtown at the New York Stock Exchange.

When you take a look at the major averages and how we are opening today.

It's going to take a second here for the NASDAQ to open, but at least for the Dow and the S and P as we start to right here, we are seeing a slight move and actually, we're right around the flat line as the Dow struggles for direction.

You've got the S and P up just a fraction here.

And also it's important to keep in mind some of the movement that we are likely to see when it comes to the NASDAQ.

We got two mag seven names reporting after the bell today as we get into earning season.

A lot of focus is going to still be on those handful of names that have been driving the S and P earnings growth narrative here over the most recent quarters.

Once again, it's expecting to do that here for the second quarter the question will be whether or not we do see broader participation and exactly how that factors in as we take a look at the guidance.

What exactly that looks like going forward here, Mattie?

Yeah, it's interesting to see this mixed picture ahead of some of the bigger tech names that we're going to be expecting to get after the bell of Tesla and alphabet.

I know you had mentioned earlier, taking a look at how some of the chips names in particular were looking at the open here.

We can look at some of these semiconductor names in video struggling a little bit TM I mean the red obviously, so I can just paint that in a broad picture but interesting to see that ahead of this earning cycle.

And this is of course, the NXP semiconductors looking like that is struggling as we kick off the day here as well.
