‘Prepare for a bumpy ride,’ clean energy expert warns

Natural gas shortages. Factories going dark in China. Line-ups at UK gas stations. The common thread, according to Tom Rand, author of the book Climate Capitalism, is that people really notice when things go wrong with energy.

He expects a “bumpy ride” as economies shift their energy needs to renewables while investment declines across the traditional fossil fuel sector.

“Are we investing in renewables in a way that matches the timing of coming off fossil fuels? I don’t know that anybody knows the answer to that question,” he said. “There are a lot of variables in there.”
