Firefighters worked to contain the Cedar Creek fire in Winthrop, Washington, as officials reported on July 28 it had grown to 35,685 acres (about 56 square miles).

This footage, posted July 28 by Instagram user @redwanderers, shows plumes of smoke rising into the sky, with the sun appearing to be vibrantly red.
