Parrot Shows He 'Loves the Sound of His Own Voice' at Florida Zoo

Florida’s Brevard Zoo released new footage on August 2 showing one of its parrots enjoying the sound of his own idiosyncratic laughter and vocal tics in a new box that was installed in his habitat.

The video shows Thor, a hyacinth macaw, taking in the echo inside the box. “We built this box in his habitat to provide him more shelter, but it didn’t take Thor long to realize that his new digs had the perfect acoustics for vocalizing,” Brevard Zoo wrote on Facebook.

Hyacinth macaws, which are native to central and eastern South America, are the largest flying parrots in the world, according to Brevard Zoo. Credit: Brevard Zoo via Storyful
