Last night of DNC, Fed speech at Jackson Hole: What to Watch

Thursday marks the final day of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago with Vice President Kamala Harris set to accept her nomination and speak at tonight's event.

Economic data in the form of new home sales will come out Friday morning, with current estimates expected to rise to 620,000 from June's figure of 617,000.

A number of Federal Reserve leaders will speak with Yahoo Finance tomorrow following Fed Chair Jerome Powell's speech at the Jackson Hole Economic Symposium. Wall Street will be listening closely as to if Powell will signal anything about the central bank's future interest rate policies ahead of its September meeting.

Time now for what to watch before we get into what's on tap for tomorrow.

The last night of the Democratic National Convention is tonight in Chicago that begins at 6:30 p.m. Eastern Vice President Kamala Harris is expected to give the keynote speech and formally accept the presidential nomination.

Moving on to tomorrow.

August 23rd new home sales data for July coming out in the morning.

Economists forecast number will go up to 620,000.

This coming after today's existing home sales numbers, those were in line with estimates at an annual pace of 3.95 million, which was a rise from June as well as the first monthly increase in five months and finally 2024 Jackson Hole economic symposium continues tomorrow and all eyes will be on fed Chair Powell speech with the today's revised jobs data showing a weaker than expected labor market.

Wall Street will look for any clues about the size of the potential rate cut in September and stay tuned to Yahoo Finance tomorrow.
