Humpback Feasts in Fish-Abundant Waters of Southeast Alaska

A humpback whale was spotted feasting in the fish-abundant waters near the southeastern Alaskan city of Ketchikan on November 22.

This footage, shot by photographer Dale Frink, shows the massive marine mammal gulping up a school of fish as it surfaces near the city’s harbours.

Frink told Storyful the humpback, dubbed “Phoenix”, had “been documented in the waters near Ketchikan almost every day since October 24th, 2020.”

“This whale is finding enough food that it has decided not to migrate yet,” he said. “Most Humpback Whales in Alaska are on their way towards Hawaii by now but several are delaying their departure this year.” Credit: Dale Frink via Storyful
