Flooding Reveals Outline of 400-Year-Old Fort in Cambridgeshire

Flooding from heavy rain revealed the outline of a 400-year-old English Civil War fortification in the town of Earith in Cambridgeshire, England, on January 18, local media reported.

The Earith Bulwark fort was built between 1643 and 1645 to protect crossing points on the local rivers during the English Civil War, according to Historic England. It was “amongst the most elaborate fortifications” from the English Civil War and was later used as a gun emplacement during World War II.
