Crisis Management: Why Biden’s infrastructure plan has ‘big relevance’ for Canada

Last week, United States president Joe Biden unveiled a massive $2 trillion infrastructure package aimed at rebuilding the economy after the coronavirus pandemic. The significant spending plan has been pitched by Biden as a “once-in-a-generation investment in America unlike anything we’ve seen or done since we built the interstate highway system and the space race decades ago.

Sean Speer, fellow in residence at the Public Policy Forum, says the plan represents “a significant shift in American public policy” and is not your “run-of-the-mill short-term stimulus.” On this episode of Crisis Management, Speer explains why Biden’s infrastructure bill represents a challenge to the way we think about the role of government, and what it could mean for Canadian policymakers.
