Cicadas Swarm Buzzing Weed Whacker in Northern Kentucky

A family in northern Kentucky discovered that cicadas were attracted to the hum of the weed whacker, recording video of an encounter between man and insect on Sunday, June 13.

Peyton Goessling captured this video of her husband, Jeff, standing in swarm of cicadas in Edgewood on Sunday morning.

“They also apparently love weed whackers,” she wrote in a tweet. Goessling’s father-in-law had ‘discovered’ that the sound of the weed whacker attracted the insects the day before, she told Storyful.

Jeff is a herpetologist, a biologist who studies reptiles and amphibians, Goessling said, so he was not afraid of the large insects. Credit: Peyton Goessling via Storyful
