Canada’s hotel quarantine is ‘unsustainable’

This week, the federal government announced it will soon loosen restrictions on Canadian travellers returning to the country – but only if they have been fully vaccinated.

Ottawa said Canadian citizens, permanent residents and essential workers who have been fully vaccinated at least 14-days before departure will be able to enter the country without having to quarantine in a government-authorized hotel for up to three days. Only those who received COVID-19 vaccines approved by Health Canada – meaning AstraZeneca, Johnson & Johnson, Moderna and Pfizer – will be considered fully vaccinated.

On this episode of Crisis Management, Alicja Siekierska and the Public Policy Forum’s Sean Speer take a look at the easing of quarantine restrictions. Speer says it’s “a good sign” that Ottawa has is allowing Canadian to skip the hotel quarantine, a policy he says was both “unsustainable” and “impractical.”
