Home Buyers Are Moving Into the Driver’s Seat. 3 Things to Know.
There’s a chill in the housing market as mortgage rates remain elevated and home prices hit new highs. Existing-home sales from February through May dragged, averaging their lowest seasonally adjusted annual rate for the period in more than a decade, a recent Barron’s analysis found. Contract signings paint a similarly gloomy picture: the National Association of Realtors’ seasonally adjusted index measuring pending home sales, home purchases that have entered contract but have yet to close, drooped in May to its lowest level on record.
