What do you all think about the Liberal party's proposed Bank Tax (from 15% to 18%), which may be implemented beginning of 2022. Canadian banks are now allowed to increase their dividends again, but their operations and cost of borrowing may need rebalancing if this tax is implemented to protect their profit margins. This could be detrimental to Canada's economical growth, if the cost of borrowing for individuals and corporations becomes to high the economy may slow. This seems rather short sighted by the Liberal party tbh. They'd collect more in taxes from an expanding economy than they would from increasing the Bank Tax by 3%.

Think Canadian financials will sell off in response?

Would you prefer to DCA an etf like RBNK or RPF or would you DCA RY. I want this to be my long term financial play. 20 year horizon. Thanks in advance for any help or opinions

Anyone have any updates on RBC’s potential bond and derivative exposure to the Chinese real estate market. I have now seen it mentioned on a few forums. I’m curious about the risk seeing how evergrande is being delisted and that would just be the first domino cheers.

The Vernon Climate Action Group plans to protest outside the Village Green branch of the Royal Bank on Oct. 29.

Organizers say RBC is the largest fossil fuel funder in Canada and has invested more than $208 billion in the fossil fuel industry since the 2016 signing of the Paris Accord.

The beautiful part of owning bank stocks is that once you buy them you don’t pay any ongoing fees and can sit back and collect a nice dividend … AND that dividend will likely see a big increase soon. Even if rates rise I think it’ll be gradual and delinquency is likely to remain low. Consumers are in a fairly strong position currently. Banks continue to be a good investing choice.

10-year bond yields dropped today. This is likely the reason for drop in Canadian banks and insurers. I’m still very bullish long-term!
