Thacker Pass Lithium Project (“Thacker Pass”):

On January 15, 2021, the US Bureau of Land Management issued the Record of Decision (“ROD”) following completion of the National Environmental Policy Act process. The ROD is the final federal approval required to start construction and operation.
All remaining state permits and water right transfers required to commence construction are forecasted to be issued later this year.
The process testing facility in Reno, Nevada, continues to operate with enhanced COVID-19 protocols in place and has produced over 20,000 kg of lithium sulphate solution.
Results of a Feasibility Study targeting an initial 30,000–35,000 tonnes per annum (“tpa”) lithium carbonate equivalent of capacity (“Phase 1”) is expected by year end. In addition, the Company is advancing engineering to consider a 20,000 tpa lithium hydroxide chemical conversion plant to have flexibility to meet potential customer and partner needs.
The Company continues to expand the engineering and technical team at Thacker Pass. There are now over 30 professionals focused on advancing the project towards the start of construction, expected to begin in early 2022.
The Company continues to evaluate partnership and financing opportunities for Thacker Pass to advance and de-risk the project.

Unlike SQM That’s sells much of its produce at spot prices albemarle has a history Of signing long term fixed price contracts - a policy that serves them well in the bad times - not so good on a rise no market though - SQM first qtr results later this month - that will likely show the true state of affairs Going forward for the likes of LAC

I’ve a feeling LAC is going to produce a giant hammer on the weekly charts and sprout up soon. It’s a huge buying opportunity that won’t be overlooked by investors.

An article from last month, but still relevant. LAC and the Nevada in particular project are in a good position given its size, pending market demand, financial strength and political climate.... So just a few pieces of the puzzle to come together... permits, partnerships, off-take agreements, etc and then time for the project build.... I'm hoping investor interest and confidence will also build along the way. Two years out, things will look much different for those willing to wait.

No volume. For the last 6 weeks or better, most volume was in the 2-4 million daily shares traded.
These are the Po-Dunk quick buck people making a daily paycheck, sitting in their housecoat or underwear day trading. A Noble job.
But earlier this year we had trading from 11-27 million shares traded. That is institutional buying. They are still "holding". The longer termers are not interested in quick bucks, just Big Bucks.
The Longs will be rewarded, as will a few of the lucky ones in their underware who own at the time of the eruption.

Hedge Finds playing with this one at these low volume levels - Massiff capital admitted so much - they gave a longer term target of $30 but happily admit to presently and previously shorting the stock - their short positions closing soon - no doubt they’ll be making more money on the long side pretty soon thereafter - stock manipulation by these characters bread and butter biz for them it seems - just going to ignore as best I can -

"Lithium Americas: The volatility noted above in LAC has resulted in solid returns via our options trades around our core equity position. At the current time, we are short calls on LAC, as we have done multiple times throughout the position’s life, expiring on May 21, 2021, at a $17.5 and $22.5 strike price.”

Like many here, I did quite well last year with LAC. I think the stock benefited from Thacker Pass’ potential and possible link to Tesla. In fact, explorers and non-producers like LAC did much better than producers, who were struggling with low selling prices and many went bankrupt. However, the pendulum started swinging the other way this year. Producers are becoming profitable again with lithium prices increasing again, and some of these stocks have done quite well lately. In my opinion, the best type of lithium companies today are those that both produce and that also have a second resource with great potential. LAC fits the mold, except that Cauchari has not produced yet. Here is a short summary of the company’s schedule updates regarding Cauchari from their presentations and news:

-LAC states on 7/17 that production would commence in 2019.
-LAC states on 09/19 that production would start in early 2021
-LAC states on 4/21 that production is “expected” during the second half of 2022.

In other words, production in Cauchari is always about a year and a half away, and we are at least 2-3 years behind the initial schedule of 2019 production. I know that COVID hit, but we should be producing by now, even if at a small scale. Please also remember that Gangfeng is the ultimate decider for Cauchari, not LAC. The way this is going, I think we will be lucky to produce by 2023. Also, it usually takes at least 2 years for brine operations to achieve or get close to nameplate production, so I don’t see Cauchari getting anywhere close to 40K tons/yet until at least 2024-25. In my opinion, LAC is missing a great opportunity to start getting substantial revenue this year, which could have helped both the SP and NV. Going back to my take on producers, please compare the 3 month and 6 month charts of LAC against most producers and you will see that LAC has been lagging against most producers (e.g., ALB, PLS, GALXF, OROCF, etc.). In addition, Tesla’s story in NV is enticing and I believe it will eventually happen with the increasing demand. The problem is that Tesla does not need to necessarily rush it as it has other easier sources. This is especially true with hard rock spodumene, which is easier to convert to lithium hydroxide and which Piedmont has a contract to supply to Tesla. Again, LAC’s time will come because NV is a huge resource, but I think that LAC has to be more proactive in all fronts. Instead of acting like they are expecting the JV or BO, they should have had Cauchari producing at least 5k tons/yr and NV. Good things will happen to LAC when it realizes that it has to show real progress. I still plan to keep a nice core position in LAC because NV will payoff, but I have done very well by spreading my lithium investments in producers and to redistribute as I see fit.

BTW I have held a healthy core of LAC stock for many years, while buying an selling my non-core positions many times with good success. Contrary to the accusations of the resident lunatic, I don’t bash or short the stock. I just call it as I see it and hope that LAC will rebound soon.

Anyone who isn't aware of the upward trending prices of products and commodities might want to do a little research. I mentioned some months back that there may be a time coming when people will be looking for investments that are not going to depreciate and that will offer a relative "safe haven" in the face of inflation. I submit that LAC and Thatcher Pass is one of the more sound investments at this time. We are investing in a company with a history of solid business practices and a substantial known resource. This is a "no brainer".

    “Short Selling Cycle -
The drop in price only furthers the number of shares short sellers are willing to sell (try saying that 3 times fast!). As the price goes down, they are making money. So as the price drops they are willing to short more, causes further price drops and less willingness from buyers. This cycle can continue for a while until the stock becomes so undervalued that buying strengthens or that short sellers begin to buy back shares to lock in their gains.“
