Airtel has selected Nokia's (NOK) integrated SIM (iSIM) Secure Connect technology to expedite digitalization in several African countries.
Airtel Africa emerged as the sole bidder for a 5G high-speed spectrum licence in Nigeria's second round of licensing after another company failed to pay a deposit to continue with the auction, the regulator said on Wednesday. The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) issued the country's first 5G licences to MTN Nigeria and Mafab Communications last year in December after the companies each paid $273.6 million. NCC said Standard Network & Connections Limited failed to pay the required "intention to bid deposit," leaving Airtel the only bidder.
SingTel, which is going through a strategic reset, said net profit for the half year ended Sept. 30 came in at S$1.17 billion, compared with S$954 million a year earlier. The company's performance was boosted by a strong turnaround in partly owned Bharti Airtel and an exceptional gain of S$1.01 billion ($720.25 million) from the partial divestment of its stake in Airtel. Optus, the Australian unit of SingTel, flagged a massive data breach where up to 10 million customers' data were compromised.
