The top 20 most and least empathetic companies

As interactions between corporations and people become increasingly intertwined through social media, companies have been forced to become increasingly more empathetic to their customers, employees and the general public.

And the Harvard Business Review has attempted to evaluate these efforts to create emotional connections.

It has ranked 170 companies on categories such as ethics, leadership. Company culture, brand perception, public messaging through social media, CEO approval ratings from workers, ratio of women on boards, as well as accounting infractions and scandals.

The results go beyond a company's efforts to change its culture, HBR has also found a correlation as high as 80 per cent between departments with higher empathy and with high performers.
