#TBT: 2004 Lincoln Mark X Concept

Based on the rear-wheel drive Ford Thunderbird, the Lincoln Mark X Concept, pronounced Mark Ten, debuted at the 2004 New York auto show. Beginning with Edsel Ford's first Mark 1 Continental, the name Mark, in Lincoln's eyes, signified something special. With a 3.9-liter V-8 under the hood pushing 280 hp, the Mark X was the first Lincoln to showcase the "egg crate" grille, something that stuck around for a while.

As a luxury convertible hardtop roadster, equipped with a retractable glass roof, the Mark X was designed to display the breadth of the brand's DNA; there were plenty of Lincoln roadsters cruising the streets in the 1930s. Today, Lincoln is still hunting to define itself among the American people, aiming to prove that, with cars like the 2015 MKC, it remains more than just a re-badged Ford.

Back in 2010, the Mark X Concept hit the auction block at RM Auctions' Pebble Beach extravaganza, fetching $101,750. The car is back on the market today with RM Auctions, set to go under the hammer again on November 15 without reserve.
