Seven Boring Cars That Are Quicker than a 1967 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500

You mostly see Impalas parked in front of the Piccadilly or on I-95 making another run between Florida and New York, but despite the Impala's popularity with the elderly, don't be mistaken—the V6 version is quick. It will hit 60 mph nearly a half second faster than the Mustang. Maybe that's why Grandpa loves his new Impala so much.

You can criticize Acura for its lack of inspiring sedans all you want, but you can't argue that Honda's luxury brand doesn't have the SUV formula down. The Lexus RX and Cadillac SRX beat the MDX in sales last year, but that was it in the midsize luxury SUV segment. We doubt speed was a factor for most buyers, but for a mostly uninspiring crossover, its 5.9-second 0-60 time is much faster than we expected.

Other than the Toyota Prius, there are few cars enthusiasts love to rag on more than the Toyota Camry. Underneath its newly aggressive styling, it's comfortable and reliable but bland. No one's going to argue that the Camry has been turned into a sports sedan, but with a V6, you also can't call it slow. Put your foot down, and you'll knock the socks off of more than a few cars on the road.

In lower trims, the Ford Edge isn't exactly what you would call "inspiring to drive." It's one of the better two-row crossovers in the segment, but it will also take more than eight seconds to hit 60 mph. When you opt for the Edge Sport, however, you get a car that's much quicker than it probably has any right to be.

The idea of a performance truck isn't that crazy. We actually recently did a list of the 10 quickest trucks. What is crazy is for a regular version of a truck to be as quick as the Ford F-150 is when equipped with the 3.5-liter V6. Like the Edge Sport, the F-150 can hit 60 mph nearly a full second faster than that Mustang. As quick as it is already, maybe it's not so bad there's no successor to the SVT Lightning.

The Honda Accord has traditionally been the slightly sportier alternative to the Toyota Camry for mainstream buyers, and the latest version stays true to form. It even rivals the Mazda6—a car that was the undisputed enthusiast's choice for years—in the fun-to-drive category. But if you choose the V6 on your new Accord, neither the Camry nor the Mazda6 will be able to keep up in the straights.

Long the choice of well-to-do families looking for minivan functionality out of a luxury vehicle, the GMC Yukon offers the choice of two engines. You can pick a 355-horsepower 5.3-liter V8, or you can upgrade to the Denali package and get a 420-horsepower 6.2-liter V8. If you spring for the Denali, your Yukon won't just be great at hauling your boat to the lake. It'll also hit 60 mph in a clean 5.5 seconds.
