Photos by Gus Petro: If Manhattan were nestled in the Grand Canyon

Swiss artist and photographer Gus Petro, visiting the U.S., was overwhelmed by the desolation of the Grand Canyon and Death Valley -- "I have never felt so alone," he told Yahoo! Homes -- compared with the density of Manhattan. His series "Empty, Dense, Merge" seeks to communicate that emotional response.

Read the backstory on Yahoo! Homes' Spaces blog.

Prints of these photos are available by contacting the artist through his website, GusPetro.com.
