In pictures: New York's winning micro-apartment design

The architectural rendering of the micro-apartment building in Manhattan. The move-in date is expected to be in September 2015. The brick cladding features subtle changes in color, according to the mayor's news release.

A multipurpose room on the ground floor will contain a cafe and will be available for performances, lectures and other activities. Common areas will also include a rooftop garden, an eighth-floor deck, a fitness room and "lounge areas on nearly every floor to invite resident interaction," the mayor's office says.

Building modules will be prefabricated at the Brooklyn Navy Yard and brought to the site, a city-owned lot at 335 East 27th Street in Manhattan. Visit Yahoo! Homes Spaces blog to learn more about New York's micro-apartment building.
