The best jobs to get without a university degree

For many students growing up in Canada, there’s a big push from parents, teachers and society to go to university in order to get a good job. Good news for those students who aren’t so inclined towards many years schooling: you can still get a well-paying gig without having a degree in hand.

New research from Canadian job search side Indeed finds that certain jobs can lead to big paycheques for little to no schooling – instead, the emphasis is on hands-on experience and learning while you’re on the job.

“Many trades and tech-related roles are in high demand,” says Jodi Kasten, managing director at Indeed Canada. “Employers are facing skills shortages meaning these roles can offer good career prospects or even self-employment opportunities.”

The study looked at the average annual salary of the positions listed on the job site, and totaled the number of postings per 1 million job postings in Canada, listed between May 2017 and July 2017.
