Cornhole is an easy, fun lawn game that’s popular with people of all ages. Consisting of two boards and eight bags (filled with whole-kernel corn, beans or beads), it’s easy to assemble, fast to learn and perfect for gatherings. You could even build your own cornhole set!
While most people are likely to play with family and friends, in the last few years, the game has become a professional sport, leading to the availability of premium bags and boards. Whether you’re playing in the backyard with the kids or practicing your sling toss for a tournament, you’ll find a great selection of boards here.
What to Consider
The best boards are made of solid wood, like birch or poplar, or lightweight marine plywood, like okoume. They’re then surface-treated for durability and smoothness.
Industry organizations, like the American Cornhole Association and the American Cornhole League, oversee the game from rules to board sizes. Regulation-size boards measure 4 feet x 2 feet. They can weigh up to 40 pounds, which makes storage and portability an issue for some. If that size is too big or heavy, tailgate size (3 feet x 2 feet) or travel size (2 feet x 1 feet) might work better for you. Some boards are sold without bags, so be sure to check the listings.
How We Selected
We reviewed games for the following features: finish (slicker, unblemished finishes let the bags slide easier), materials, durability, and portability. We also looked at a variety of price points, from downright affordable to splurges, for those with a little more money to spend.
