After Cyclone Alert, Rainfall Predicted in North Andhra and South Odisha

After the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued cyclone alerts in the northern regions of Andhra Pradesh and the southern regions of Odisha on Friday, rainfall has also been forecasted in both states on Saturday, 25 September.

Districts that will receive light to moderate rainfall today are Kendrapara, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Jagatsinghpur, Khaja and Puri, ANI reported citing Sanjeev Dwivedi, a scientist at IMD Bhubaneswar.

Tomorrow, however, Kandhamal, Koraput and Malkangiri will be some of the districts that will witness heavy to extremely heavy rainfall.

Dr. Dwivedi also said that orange and yellow alerts have been issued for districts that come under Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, and Coastal Andhra Pradesh, ANI added.

The IMD had issued warnings about the threat of a cyclone on Friday, 25 September, due to an intensifying low pressure system in the northern regions of Andhra Pradesh and the adjoining coasts of South Odisha.

The official Twitter handle of the IMD has been posting regular updates about the cyclone.

India has an extremely long coastline and is often confronted with cyclones. Cyclones Yaas and Tauktae were two such cyclones that hit India in 2021.
