Woman accused of trying to withdraw $19K from bank using fake ID

Red Deer RCMP have arrested a woman who they say tried using forged identification to withdraw $19,000 from a bank account and who is also wanted on four warrants in Calgary for a traffic charge, break of probation and theft.

Bank staff called police on Wednesday after they suspected the woman was using fake ID. Police confirmed she was in possession of a fraudulent Alberta's driver's license and social insurance number.

RCMP also seized a withdrawal slip from a different bank branch that showed the woman had taken $3,500 from the same account earlier that day.

The victim whose bank account had been compromised was not aware that her identity had been stolen and still had her authentic driver's license and SIN.

The 37-year-old woman faces four counts of uttering forged documents, two counts of identity fraud and two counts of fraud over $5,000. She appeared in a Red Deer court on Thursday for a bail hearing, but is also wanted on another warrant in B.C. for theft.
