Windsorites say their city has the 'best pizza' whether Condé Nast says so or not

Any way you slice it, making a list of the best places for pizza is an exercise in controversy.

But that didn't scare off Condé Nast Traveler from doing just that.

The travel magazine recently published a list of the top 14 cities for pizza — 13 of which were either in Italy or the United States.

Only one Canadian city was included on the list and that was Edmonton.

Perhaps predictably, some pizza enthusiasts in Windsor, Ont., are taking umbrage with the fact their border city didn't get any mention from Condé Nast.

"It would seem that the general consensus among people is that Windsor has the best pizza," Daniel Lockhart told CBC News through a Facebook message.

A Facebook user named Barbara Cargill needed just two letters to make her feelings known.

"BS," she wrote to CBC via Facebook.

Michael Vecera of Leamington, Ont., questioned if the two cities' pizzas could be fairly compared.

"The judging or definition of 'best pizza' in this context is flawed," he said on Facebook.

Vecera said a conversation on CBC Radio's Windsor Morning about the Condé Nast list led him to believe that "a region's style was not considered in the judging but rather the variety offered."

A listener named Denny sent an email to Windsor Morning after hearing the same segment to say that "Windsor pizzas are superior to anything in this nation."
