West Sixth Brewing to open new taproom in historic Northern Kentucky firehouse

West Sixth Brewing announced it will be opening a new taproom in Northern Kentucky this fall.

It will be at 100 West Sixth Street in Covington at the former Covington Haus, a bar and restaurant led by Covington advocate Mick Noll. West Sixth Brewing co-owner Ben Self said they wanted to name their latest taproom after the popular bar and restaurant after learning about its significance, giving it the name West Sixth Covington Haus.

“His family has graciously given their blessing for the use of the name and shared some wonderful stories about the bar’s legacy with us,” Self said.

There are plans to have 20 beers on tap and eventually a food concept. The brewing company will be moving from its Box Park location in Newport to the new location in Covington this fall.

The staff and manager are being retained in the new space, according to West Sixth Brewing.

“This Northern Kentucky expansion has long been a priority for us and we’re really excited to round out our Kentucky reach with this bigger taproom space,” Self said in a press release.

The new location was originally built as a firehouse, according to West Sixth Brewing. It has served as the home to many tenants since, including most recently Flying Axes. West Sixth Covington Haus will occupy the first floor while the top floor will be home to the acclaimed cocktail bar, Second Story.

Noll’s son, Ludwig Noll, said they’re excited to see West Sixth Brewing move into the building.

“My parents, Mick and Pat Noll, spent a lot of life capital saving it from being demolished in the 70s, turning it into Mick Noll’s Covington Haus,” Lugwig Noll said in the press release. “ Because of their passion, the Covington Haus lives on so that West Sixth Brewing and the people of the region can continue to spread gemütlichkeit within its walls.”

West Sixth Brewing has also formed a partnership with Chas Seligman Distriuting Co. to help increase the availability of West Sixth beers across the region.

“We are excited to partner with West Sixth Brewing, one of Kentucky’s largest craft breweries, and bring their exceptional beers to more people in Northern Kentucky,” Chas Seligman Distributing Co. General Manager Jennifer Doering said in a press release. “We’re very excited to begin this relationship at the same time they’re opening West Sixth Covington Haus, adding another Kentucky proud product to our Craft portfolio.”
