Here are this week’s COVID-19 case totals and deaths for Pierce County

Pierce County reported 242 new COVID-19 cases Friday and three new deaths.

Deaths reported since Monday included:

▪ A man in his 70s from Parkland.

▪ A man in his 40s from Tacoma.

▪ A man in his 60s from South Hill.

▪ A man in his 60s from South Pierce County.

▪ A woman in her 80s from Lakewood.

▪ A man in his 60s from Tacoma.

▪ A woman in her 70s from Graham.

▪ A woman in her 80s from South Pierce County.

▪ A man in his 30s from Puyallup.

▪ A woman in her 80s from Puyallup.

▪ A man in his 30s from Tacoma

▪ A man in his 50s from South Pierce County.

▪ A woman in her 60s from Spanaway.

▪ A woman in her 70s from South Hill.

▪ A woman in her 60s from Tacoma.

▪ A woman in her 80s from Tacoma.

▪ A woman in her 60s from South Pierce County.

▪ A man in his 60s from Edgewood/Fife/Milton.

Including Monday, a total of 19 deaths were reported this week.

As of Nov. 30, 67 percent of the people who died of COVID in the county had underlying health conditions, according to the health department’s dashboard.

The county’s totals are 97,599 cases and 942 deaths since the first confirmed coronavirus case was reported in March 2020.

Pierce County’s 14-day case rate per 100,000 was 303.3 for Nov. 10-23. The rate of hospitalizations per 100,000 is at 7.6.

From February to October, 40,569 of Pierce County’s cases involved unvaccinated people, according to the state Department of Health in its vaccine data report issued Dec. 1.

That compares with 7,908 cases involving those vaccinated during the same period, according to state DOH.

This week, the health department announced it is moving away from daily case and death reporting to a weekly reporting format each Tuesday, with the first release in the new format set for Dec. 14.

VACCINES

In Pierce County, 69.8 percent of the population 12 and older has initiated vaccination, and 63.8 percent is fully vaccinated, according to state Department of Health.

Among those 12 and older statewide, 80.8 percent has initiated vaccination, and 74.6 percent is fully vaccinated.

Percentage of those in each age range who have received at least one dose of vaccine in Pierce County as posted Dec. 1:

▪ 5-11: 10.7 percent

▪ 12-17: 55.5 percent

▪ 18-19: 67.8 percent

▪ 20-34: 64.2 percent

▪ 35-49: 71.5 percent

▪ 50-64: 73.6 percent

▪ 65-79: 79.6 percent

▪ 80 and older: 87.4 percent

Walk-up vaccine sites run by the county and most TPCHD events now no longer require an appointment, and all TPCHD events are for first or second doses. Anyone age 5 or older is eligible for the Pfizer vaccine. Those younger than 18 need parent or guardian approval.
