Wayne Couzens ‘has stopped eating in jail and is being watched 24/7’

Wayne Couzens has reportedly stopped eating in jail and is being watched around the clock after “plunging into depression” over his crimes, it has been reported.

The former Metropolitan Police officer, 48, pleaded guilty to the murder and rape of marketing executive Sarah Everard this month.

He is currently in Belmarsh prison but is barely touching his food, according to The Sun.

A source said: “After pleading guilty, Couzens basically didn’t touch any food for days.

“He’s still not eating properly, barely anything at all.

“It’s clear the enormity of his crimes have finally begun to register. But he’s being watched like a hawk in case he tries to take the easy way out.”

Couzens, from Kent, abducted Ms Everard as she walked home from a friend’s house in Clapham on March 3.

At the time he was an armed officer in the Met’s elite parliamentary and diplomatic protection group.

He was employed by the force despite serious questions being raised about his behaviour.

Couzens had been accused of indecent exposure three times and had been nicknamed The Rapist by colleagues.

He has now been sacked by the Met but the force faces a probe by the Independent Office for Police Conduct over allegedly failing to investigate two allegations of flashing.

Kent Police is also being investigated over claims its failed to follow up an allegation of indecent exposure in 2015.
