Walk through iconic 1894 S.F. home with great bay views. Asking price is $17 million

Built in 1894, a magnificent San Francisco Victorian mansion on a premier corner lot at Broadway and Pierce in Pacific Heights — with spectacular bay views, deck and a yard — is on the market for $17 million.

The estate is grand in scale and captures the elegance of traditional San Francisco. Renovated by architect Houman Sharif and designer Kendall Wilkinson, the home features a balance of luxurious finishes and period details, including rich woodwork, wainscoting and paneling throughout in conjunction with sleek contemporary fixtures and custom fittings.

Spanning 7,045 square feet across four levels — all accessible by elevator — the home has six bedrooms and five full and two half-bathrooms.

The home was fully renovated in the 1990s, listing agent Nina Hatvany told SFGate. The work apparently added a lot of square footage.

“The square footage has been measured by our graphic artist and also corresponds closely with what the tax records show. I think quite a lot of square footage was added in the ‘90s when it was fully renovated,” Hatvany told the website.

The main level offers entertaining spaces, a formal dining room with fireplace, a living room, a family room with a breakfast area with a view and an open chef’s kitchen with deck and water views.

Upstairs sit four bedrooms and three bathrooms on a floor, including the primary suite complete with a dressing room, walk-in closet, and spa-like marble bathroom.

“On the top level is a spectacular lounge with sweeping vistas of the Bay and Alcatraz, skylights, a walk-out roof deck, a full bathroom, and a wet bar/entertaining kitchen. The lower-level houses two additional lovely guest bedrooms, a hallway bathroom with shower over tub and a powder room, a wine cellar, a tradesmen’s entrance, and a three-car garaged parking,” the listing states. “A spacious playroom or media room opens directly to a lush, landscaped back garden: a fabulous oasis for entertaining and recreation.”

The home last sold in 2013 for $8.2 million, according to realtor.com.
