Volkswagen Announces New Limited Edition Version of its e-Golf Electric Car

Volkswagen has announced a new trim level for the 2015-model version of its fully electric e-Golf EV. The 2015 e-Golf Limited Edition, on sale at a starting price of $33,450, features a 24.2-kWh Lithium-ion battery and an electric motor that combined produce 115 horsepower and 199 lb.-ft. of torque, with a 7.2-kW onboard charger included. The battery can charge up to 80% in 30 minutes, VW says, and the electric vehicle boasts an EPA-estimated fuel-economy rating of 116 combined MPGe (126 mpg in the city and 105 mpg highway), thus putting the e-Golf at top of the 2015 EPA Compact Size class, the automaker says. Other features include keyless access with push-button start, navigation system, and LED daytime running lights with C-shaped light signature.

The new Limited Edition is priced nearly $2,000 less than the e-Golf SEL Premium trim level, and is available at a monthly lease price of $229, plus applicable fees. The Limited Edition features 16-in. steel wheels in place of the SEL Premium's aluminum alloys; halogen instead of LED headlights; cloth in place of leatherette seating surfaces; and deletion of the heat-pump system. It retains the cargo area of 22.8 cu. ft. behind the rear seats; 52.7 cu. ft. with seats folded. The e-Golf Limited Edition features three driving profiles, dual-zone climate control, electronic parking brake, electrically heated windshield, automatic headlights and wipers, rearview camera, and park distance control.

Volkswagen is also taking a new holistic approach to e-Mobility. This includes a collaboration with 3Degrees (a renewable energy services provider) to invest in carbon reduction projects, to help offset the emissions created from Volkswagen e-Golf production, distribution, and charging of the vehicle up to 36,000 miles of driving. Charging solutions from Bosch and Chargepoint, along with a new roadside-assistance program and the VW Car-Net e-Golf app, are all available to e-Golf owners.
