Ultra-Rare Lamborghini LM002 Wagon Is Up For Sale

Supercar companies build ultra-low-number creations all of the time these days. Most of the time though, the cars in question end up sold long before the public ever sees them. Sometimes, the buyers are relatively high-profile people, but often, they go unnamed. The subject of this story though is the Lamborghini LM002 Wagon—built because the Sultan of Brunei requested it.

The LM002 needs no introduction but please permit a small one nonetheless. Dubbed the Rambo Lambo by many, it leveraged a 5.2-liter V-12 from the Countach under the front hood, a manual gearbox, and four-wheel drive. With no modifications whatsoever, it's already a rare car since Lamborghini only made approximately 300 of them. This one, specially commissioned by the Sultan in 1989, is called the LM002 Carrozzeria Diomante or, imaginatively, the LM002 Diomante Bodywork.

It still features the big V-12 under the hood and all of the normal running gear of the LM002 pickup but has an enclosed rear. To that end, it seats seven in total with a trio of bench seats arranged in a U behind the second row. Those looking to move just kids might even be able to fit up to ten total humans in this alien-looking SUV.

Now that it's nearly 40 years old, changed hands a number of times (the Sultan sold it after putting only 1,100 miles on it), and has about 6,451 miles on the odometer, it needs a little restoration. Some of the paint is bubbling, some of the leather upholstery is cracking, and some cabin surfaces are fading. In addition, the tires are still original but have no fear, the seller is including a new set from Pirrelli built specifically for the LM002.

Notably, different sources including the auction listing say that two other LM002 wagons do or did exist in the past but as of this writing, we couldn't find evidence of either one from recent years. That could very well make this an even more important SUV than it already is. It becomes available at auction over at SBX Cars on August 7.
