UFC Fight Night 196 results: Grant Dawson vs. Ricky Glenn ends in a majority draw

Grant Dawson and Ricky Glenn exchanged dominant grappling positions in the UFC Fight Night 196 co-main event, and in the end, the judges couldn’t pick a winner.

Dawson (17-1 MMA, 5-0-1 UFC) used an onslaught of takedowns and positional dominance to overwhelm Glenn (22-6-2 MMA, 4-3-1 UFC) for the first two rounds. The tables were turned in Round 3, as Glenn completely altered the momentum for a 10-8 round to make the final scores locked a majority draw at 29-28, 28-28, and 28-28.

The lightweight bout was the UFC Fight Night 196 co-main event at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. It streamed on ESPN+.

Dawson wasted no time implementing his game plan to start the fight. He got Glenn to the mat inside the first minute and started going to work with his grappling attacks. Dawson waited for Glenn to make a mistake and took the back, where he started to unload with strikes and try to sneak in a finishing choke. Glenn showed good defense, but he ended up being controlled for more than four minutes of the frame.

Grant denied Dawson’s initial entry to begin the second round, but Dawson stayed relentless in pursuit of the takedown and managed to get the position he wanted. Dawson worked from guard and side control, chipping away with short punches and waring Glenn down to secure another one-sided round in his favor.

There was no veering from the strategy on Dawson’s end going into Round 3. He shot for the takedown as soon as he saw the opportunity, but he was fatigued and a desperate Glenn managed to keep him away in the early minutes of the round. Glenn found his way into top position and tried to threaten with submissions and ground-and-pound. He nearly finished it with an anaconda choke late, and said he thought Dawson was out.

The judges felt Glenn’s work on the mat was enough to warrant a 10-8 in Round 3, making it a draw.
