TVA to retire Kingston fossil plant by end of 2027

April 2 (Reuters) - Power supplier Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) has decided to retire its Kingston Fossil Plant and build an energy complex at the site by the end of 2027, the company said in a press release on Tuesday.

The company plans to shut down all nine of Kingston's coal-fired units.

The energy complex will house natural gas, solar energy and battery storage at the location, the release said.

"The natural gas generation will be in operation prior to Kingston Fossil Plant retirement to maintain reliable, uninterrupted power to our customers," it said.

Meanwhile, TVA will continue to evaluate the remaining coal fleet for retirement and replacement generation.
