TRUMP: 'This is the day we take our country back'

Real-estate magnate Donald Trump's final campaign event before Monday's Iowa caucuses became one of his freewheeling stump speeches.

The Republican presidential front-runner began his speech by warning his supporters to be on the lookout for any protesters armed with tomatoes.

Trump also predicted that his victory later that night would start a new chapter for the country. He marveled at his crowd size.

"To have a crowd like this on our final day. Can you believe it?" he told his supporters in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. "This is the day. This is the day we take our country back. Remember that. This is the day we take our country back."

Trump went on to say that after he wins next November's general election, his audience members would have to get used to the US constantly winning.

"You're going to get so tired of winning. We're going to win. We're going to keep winning, it's true. It's true," he reiterated. "We're going to keep winning. You're going to say, 'Mr. President, please, please we can't stand it. We're winning too much.' And I'm going to say, 'I'm sorry, I'm not changing a thing. We're going to keep winning.'"

Trump's top rival in the Iowa caucuses is Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas). But Cruz's support in public polls has sagged as he and Trump tore each other to shreds on the campaign trail over the past three weeks.

Data guru Nate Silver, a longtime skeptic of Trump's chances, said his model gave Trump a 46% chance at winning Iowa, compared to 39% for Cruz and 14% for Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Florida). Retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson also had a 1% chance in Silver's model.

The mogul finished his speech sounding a little less bullish on his chances.

"So hopefully we're going to have a great victory," he said.

Trump added:

A lot of the news commentators … They say, "Wouldn't you be better off if you just said, 'We want to do well in Iowa'?" And I said, "Not really. I mean, I want to be truthful." I'm a truthful person. I want to win Iowa. I don't want to "do well." I want to win.
