Goldman Sachs names insider Carey Halio its global treasurer

By Niket Nishant and Saeed Azhar

(Reuters) -Goldman Sachs' Chief Strategy Officer Carey Halio will replace Philip Berlinski as its global treasurer, the bank announced in an internal memo seen by Reuters on Thursday.

Halio had joined the Wall Street giant as a summer associate in 1999 in the credit risk division. She rejoined the company in the same team in 2000 and became the deputy treasurer of the bank and the chief of Goldman Sachs Bank USA while earning the coveted partner rank in 2016.

Halio's predecessor, Berlinski, is leaving after more than 25 years at Goldman. He was also the interim head of Goldman's platform solutions unit, a position vacated by Stephanie Cohen, who left to become the first chief strategy officer at cloud services company Cloudflare.

Berlinski is joining New York-based hedge fund Millennium Management as its co-chief operating officer, according to a source familiar with the matter said. The Financial Times reported earlier on his move. The hedge fund declined to comment.

Berlinski was also the interim head of Goldman's consumer unit Platform Solutions since its former head Stephanie Cohen went on a long leave and eventually decided to resign.

Goldman Sachs President John Waldron will oversee Platform Solutions in the interim, according to a different source familiar with the matter.

Several high-profile executives have departed Goldman in recent months, including Cohen and asset management executive Julian Salisbury. Jim Esposito, the co-head of the global banking and markets unit, is also retiring.

Halio will report to CFO Denis Coleman, according to the memo. Separately, Goldman named Jehan Ilahi its head of investor relations, a role Halio held previously.
