Tiffany eyes 52-week high, Intel self-driving car partnership, Tivo jumps on Netflix deals

Here are some of the stocks the Yahoo Finance team will be watching for you today.

Tiffany (TIF) shares are flirting with a 52-week high after the upscale jewelry retailer surprised investors with a beat on both its top and bottom lines for the third quarter. The company’s revenue rose more than 1% from a year ago, marking the first rise in sales in eight quarters. That was thanks to strong sales in China and Japan, which helped offset a decline in the US. Separately, the company said that its flagship store, next to Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue has seen “sales softness” due to the heightened security around the residence of President-elect Donald Trump

Allstate (ALL) is buying privately held SquareTrade, which sells warranties for electronic products, for $1.4 billion. The deal will help AllState expand into new markets.

UnitedHealth’s (UNH) stock got a nice pop in early trading. The nation’s largest health insurer reiterated its guidance for this year and gave an upbeat outlook for 2017. The company expects earnings per share to potentially reach $9.60 a share next year. The bullish forecast came ahead of its annual investor conference today.

Tivo (TIVO) shares rose this morning after the company announced yesterday it signed licensing and product agreements with Netflix. TiVo will integrate Netflix’s streaming service into its set-top boxes. It will also have a Netflix button on its remote controls. A separate deal gives Netflix a license to TiVo’s patent portfolios. This comes after TiVo merged with Rovi in September.

Intel (INTC) confirmed it will supply chips for self-driving car systems designed by Delphi Automotive (DLPH) and the Israeli company Mobileye (MBLY). Those two companies announced in August plans to sell automakers a system by 2019 that can give less expensive cars and trucks the intelligence to drive themselves. The partnership is Intel’s latest move to catch up to rivals like Nvidia (NVDA) in the market for self-driving car technology.
