Moravian Prep takes down Combine Academy in nationally ranked battle

Eighth grader Isaac Ellis had a team-high 13 points, tying with teammate Jackson Holt, to lead nationally ranked Moravian Prep to a 68-58 win over nationally ranked Combine Academy Friday.

Combine got 15 points from AJ Smith and 10 from Preston Murphy.

Friday’s Boys #BIG5 Top Performers

AJ Cook, Weddington: made 5 3-point shots in a 68-48 win over Cox Mill. Cook had 19 points, three rebounds, three assists and three steals for the reigning 3A state champs.

Kany Tchnada, Concord Academy: 6-9 sophomore had 23 points, 15 rebounds and four blocks in a 59-42 win over Westminster Catawba.

Quay Watson, Hopewell: sophomore had a career-high 31 points in a 74-73 win over Mountain Island Charter.

Greg Wenger, Porter Ridge: career-high 8 3-points and 24 points in an 83-58 win over Providence.

Tyree White, Sun Valley: sophomore ha 30 points, 12 above his average, in a 74-53 win over Parkwood.

Chandler Brooks, Providence Day: career-high 22 points, seven rebounds in a 58-34 win over Byrnes at the Battle of the Rock Tournament in Rock Hill.

Kaylee Carson, Kamryn Kitchen, Independence: 27 points, five rebounds, five assists, three steals for Carson in a 74-41 win over West Charlotte. Kitchen, a freshman, had 20 points 4 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals.

Olivia Miller, South Caldwell: game-high 22 points in a 58-44 win over Piedmont Charter.
