A three-vehicle crash on the M25 involving an ambulance has sparked a partial closure of the major road expected to affect morning rush hour traffic.

The motorway has been closed between junctions eight and nine following the collision, which occurred at about 3.30am on Tuesday.

Surrey Police said the road would remain closed for at least three hours, possibly stretching into rush hour.

The collision involved an ambulance, a car and an HGV, the force said.

The driver of the car has been taken to hospital with serious leg injuries, while the occupants of the other vehicles were not harmed, police said.
