Flight attendant is the most sought after job in the UK, according to new research from job search engine Adzuna.
The research analysed over 600,000 open job adverts on Adzuna’s website by looking into the job titles with the highest click rates in November 2020 to reveal the 30 most in demand job roles across the UK.
Flight attendant came out on top despite the COVID-19-related travel standstill, with an average click rate of 24.1 across just 14 job adverts.
High redundancies across airlines caused by the coronavirus pandemic has increased demand for cabin crew jobs, according to Adzuna. UK-based airlines British Airways, Virgin Atlantic and EasyJet have axed over 16,600 jobs between them.
An average advertised salary of just £19,893 ($27,021) isn’t putting off the thousands of recently laid-off flight crew competing for the limited number of available jobs.
The second most sought after job in the UK is door attendant with 21.7 average clicks and an average salary of £20,002. Security roles at venues such as bars, clubs and restaurants have been impacted as venues have been forced to close their doors due to coronavirus restrictions.

Private chef came in at number three on the list, with an average click rate of 19.9 and a salary of £30,018. Head pastry chef also made the top 30, coming in at number 18.
Executive secretary was at number four with 19.2 average clicks and an average annual salary of £31,066, followed by personal assistant, non-executive director, and bricklaying supervisor.
Events executive came in eighth place with an average click rate of 13.1 across just 30 job ads. Events manager also featured in the top 30, ranking at number 23 with an average click rate of 9.0 across 154 job ads. The events industry has been hit hard by COVID-19 with over 7,400 redundancies across theatre and live events, according to creative union Bectu.
However, not all of the most sought after jobs in the UK are in industries experiencing redundancy pain. Bicycle courier positions came in at number 26, with an average click rate of 8.6, and 2,352 positions available.
Demand for this role skyrocketed in 2020 as people turned to home-deliveries and takeaway services during the pandemic. This is also a flexible option for workers to earn extra cash around other employment.

Creative roles also featured highly on the list of most sought after UK jobs, as the coronavirus pushed more Brits to seek creatively fulfilling careers. Make-up artist has the 9th highest click rate at 12.5, digital graphic designer rounded out the top 10 at 12.2, and blogger was 11th on the list at 11.5 despite just 24 blogger roles on offer.
Other roles that have risen in popularity over the last year include activism officer, ranking 19th with a click rate of 9.6, and NHS administrator at number 28 with 8.4, reflecting a growing spotlight on Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) and environmental activism, as well as the critical year for the NHS.
The highest paid job in the top 30 is chief operating officer, where advertised salaries average £68,174 with 155 roles available. This is followed by head of retail at £53,518 and 30 roles available.
Overall, 25 of the 30 most sought after UK jobs offer lower annual pay than the current average advertised UK salary of £36,903.
Andrew Hunter, co-founder of Adzuna, said: “Jobs in the airline and event industries are like hen’s teeth at the moment and we’re seeing massive interest from jobseekers whenever these positions come up, reflecting recent redundancies in these sectors.

“Creative jobs like Blogger roles and Digital Graphic Designer openings are also proving popular, as many workers have chosen to pursue creative fulfilment during the pandemic. And Gig jobs like Bicycle Couriers are highly sought after as many workers look to top up their income in a tight financial climate.
“The research also shows pay doesn’t mean popularity when it comes to job adverts. 25 of the top 30 most sought after jobs offer lower salaries than the UK average, showing many jobseekers are looking for more than just money when seeking a new role.”
