Warren Buffett's editor on the most surprising thing about him

Warren Buffett's editor on the most surprising thing about him

At 85, billionaire investor Warren Buffett’s life is pretty much an open book. The chairman and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway (BRK-A, BRK-B) likes cheeseburgers and Cherry Coke (KO), tries to spend 80% of his day reading, and unwinds playing bridge with his best friends, including Microsoft (MSFT) founder Bill Gates. And here's something you might not know: He is a really big fan of professional boxing.

“I think he likes that it is physical. That it is two guys out there, slugging it,” Buffett’s long-time friend and retired Fortune Magazine senior editor-at-large Carol Loomis told Yahoo Finance editor-in-chief Andy Serwer. Loomis, who has known Buffett for almost 50 years, is the editor of the annual Berkshire Hathaway shareholder letter. And, she is also Buffett's bridge partner.

Loomis says Buffett's love of boxing is the one thing about him that she finds surprising. “If he is home on Friday nights, he watches boxing,” said Loomis. “Now does that fit your profile of Warren Buffett?” she added.

Buffett is a fan of boxer Floyd Mayweather, who was featured in his annual Berkshire Hathaway movie in 2015. The movie is screened to shareholders at the open of the annual meeting. Coincidentally, the meeting in 2015 took place on the same day as the "Fight of the Century" between Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao. Mayweather won the fight.

Buffett was 84 when he attended his first boxing match at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas in 1984. It was a rematch between Marcos Maidana and Floyd Mayweather. That fight was also won by Mayweather.
