'That's just insane': Tucker Carlson resents ADL's response to 'Replacement' theory remarks

·4 min read

The Anti-Defamation League is once again calling for Fox News personality Tucker Carlson's ousting.

The "Tucker Carlson Tonight" host is under fire from the organization battling antisemitism and other types of hate for his recent comments on "The Great Replacement" theory.

"It cannot be overstated enough," ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt tweeted Friday. "For @TuckerCarlson, host of one of the most watched news programs in the country, to use his platform as a megaphone to spread the toxic and xenophobic 'Great Replacement' theory, is repugnant and a dangerous abuse of power."

"A reminder: 'The Great Replacement' theory and its racist and xenophobic roots have served as the inspiration for multiple mass shootings and deadly attacks," the official Twitter account for ADL shared the same day.

Tucker Carlson doubles down on voter 'replacement' comments after ADL calls for his firing

In a video posted to Fox News' YouTube account Wednesday, Carlson said President Joe Biden had aligned himself with sentiments of "The Great Replacement," which Carlson explained as "the replacement of legacy Americans with more obedient people from far away countries. They brag about it all the time, but if you dare to say it's happening they will scream at you with maximum hysteria."

Historian, author and University of Chicago assistant professor Kathleen Belew recently explained the theory to NPR's Lulu Garcia-Navarro. "The idea is that somehow, nonwhite people or outsiders or strangers or foreigners will overtake the United States via immigration, reproduction and seizure of political power," Belew said. "One reason that the ADL is sensitive to this issue is that many incarnations of this theory involve a supposed cabal of Jewish elites."

Carlson said Biden is motivated to have high numbers of immigrants "to change the racial mix of the country, to reduce the political power of people whose ancestors lived here and dramatically increase the proportion of Americans newly arrived from the third world."

USA TODAY has reached out to ADL and Fox News for comment.

'I lie': Oops. Fox News host Tucker Carlson says the quiet part loud

Where's Matt Gaetz? Not in his Florida Panhandle district; 'He's everywhere but here'

Rep. Matt Gaetz backed Carlson on Twitter Saturday writing, "@TuckerCarlson is CORRECT about Replacement Theory as he explains what is happening to America. The ADL is a racist organization."

Carlson doubled down on his earlier comments with Megyn Kelly, his former Fox News colleague, in an interview for her SiriusXM program, "The Megyn Kelly Show," on Friday.

"Today there's more blow-back on whether you've been pushing for 'The Great Replacement Theory,' " Kelly said to her guest. "You said that this is gonna happen on your show last night. Sure enough, on cue, the ADL comes out and comes after you."

"Well, (expletive) them," responded Carlson. "What liars!"

He continued, accusing the organization of being "operated by a guy who's just an apparatchik of the Democratic party. I have to say it's important for people with moral authority to stand up and say that because it's very corrosive for someone to take the residual moral weight of an organization that he inherited and use it for partisan ends, which is what they're doing.

Fox News should fire Tucker Carlson for pushing white-supremacist theory, ADL says

Former Fox, NBC personality Megyn Kelly to host weekly live SiriusXM talk show

'The Great Replacement' theory is, in fact, not a theory," Carlson went on. "It’s something that the Democrats brag about constantly, up to and including the president, and in one sentence, it’s this: Rather than convince the current population that our policies are working and they should vote for us as a result, we can’t be bothered to do that. We’re instead going to change the composition of the population and bring in people who will vote for us. So there isn’t actually inherently a racial component to it, and it’s nothing to do with antisemitism.”

"It's a political point you're trying to make," Kelly suggested.

"Yeah, I don't know what the ADL is doing weighing in on this," Carlson responded. "I mean that's just insane, and obviously I'm not going to stop saying it because they're saying it."
