Was Termo-Rex SA.’s (WSE:TRR) Earnings Decline Part Of A Broader Industry Downturn?

Understanding how Termo-Rex SA. (WSE:TRR) is performing as a company requires looking at more than just a years’ earnings. Today I will run you through a basic sense check to gain perspective on how Termo-Rex is doing by comparing its latest earnings with its long-term trend as well as the performance of its building industry peers. See our latest analysis for Termo-Rex

Did TRR perform worse than its track record and industry?

For the purpose of this commentary, I like to use data from the most recent 12 months, which annualizes the latest 6-month earnings release, or some times, the latest annual report is already the most recent financial data. This allows me to analyze various companies on a similar basis, using the latest information. For Termo-Rex, its most recent earnings (trailing twelve month) is ZŁ862.00K, which, in comparison to the prior year’s figure, has fallen by -23.10%. Given that these values are relatively nearsighted, I have created an annualized five-year figure for TRR’s earnings, which stands at ZŁ335.23K This suggests that despite the fact that earnings declined from the previous year, over the long run, Termo-Rex’s earnings have been rising on average.

What’s enabled this growth? Let’s see whether it is merely attributable to industry tailwinds, or if Termo-Rex has seen some company-specific growth. Over the last few years, Termo-Rex grew its bottom line faster than revenue by efficiently controlling its costs. This brought about a margin expansion and profitability over time. Viewing growth from a sector-level, the PL building industry has been growing, albeit, at a muted single-digit rate of 9.44% in the prior twelve months, and 2.84% over the past half a decade. This suggests that any uplift the industry is benefiting from, Termo-Rex has not been able to leverage it as much as its industry peers.

What does this mean?

Termo-Rex’s track record can be a valuable insight into its earnings performance, but it certainly doesn’t tell the whole story. Companies that are profitable, but have capricious earnings, can have many factors influencing its business.
