UK's Virgin Media broadband suffers fresh outages

LONDON (Reuters) -British telecoms firm Virgin Media said it had experienced fresh broadband outages on Tuesday, with tens of thousands of customers reporting internet access problems only hours after the company said an earlier issue had been resolved.

The Downdetector website showed a peak of more than 54,000 reports of problems, mostly around internet connectivity.

"Unfortunately we have seen a repeat of an earlier issue which is causing intermittent broadband connectivity problems for some Virgin Media customers," Virgin Media said on Twitter.

"We apologise again to those impacted, our teams are continuing to work flat out to find the root cause of the problem and fix it."

Problems began in the early hours of Tuesday, before the company initially said they had been resolved around 1030 GMT.

Virgin Media O2 is owned by Liberty Global and Spain's Telefonica.
