Taylor Swift’s Stella McCartney Lookbook Just Dropped and It May Contain More Clues About “Lover”

The lookbook for Taylor Swift’s collaboration with designer Stella McCartney has officially dropped on Taylor’s website, and it’s safe to say that we want everything. But we’re not just salivating over the dreamy satin zip-up jacket or tie-dyed pastel tees; we’re combing each and every piece for clues about Tay’s upcoming album Lover and the songs it contains.

Taylor first announced the collab via Instagram Live in early June and has often been spotted wearing Stella pieces; she wore a gorgeous aqua Stella McCartney gown when she skipped the Grammys to attend the BAFTAs in February, and wore the brand’s rainbow sneakers when she performed at Wango Tango in July. Even her beloved cats, Meredith and Olivia, have been spotted in Stella cat carriers.

Drawing on Taylor's forthcoming album in addition to the aesthetics of vintage graffiti, band tees, and nostalgic memorabilia, the collection includes dad hats, tote bags, jackets, and tees emblazoned with “Stella x Taylor Swift,” as well as more traditional concert-style tees with both Taylor’s face and the full Lover tracklist printed on them. The entire collab is inspired by Taylor’s Lover era, with romantic pastel colors and heart motifs. And yes, there are a few cat-centric pieces, because this is Taylor Swift we’re talking about. According to the press release, all of the jersey pieces in the collection were made from sustainable organic cotton; "Taylor is a huge supporter of Stella’s pioneering work in the field of sustainability and is excited to be able to offer pieces to fans that are kinder to the environment."

There are also two exclusive Stella McCartney pieces that are being offered in a limited run and available only via StellaMcCartney.com from on the night of the 22nd August and at Stella McCartney standalone stores in London, New York on August 23rd. The special items include a bomber jacket with an airbrushed heart and rhinestone details that was made from sustainable viscose and a handbag made from oyster-hued Eco Alter-Nappa leather, which is solvent free and made from recycled polyester and oils from vegetable waste. The bomber costs $1995 and the handbag is $795. The collection and exclusive pieces will also be part of “The Lover Experience” pop-up shop taking place in New York City from August 23-25.

Eagle-eyed fans couldn’t help but notice that two tees, which reads, “Like a Tennessee Stella McCartney” and “Summer’s a knife,” stood out from the rest. While some of the T-shirts feature lyrics from the title track, “Lover,” these two phrases haven’t been featured in any of the songs we’ve heard thus far. If we know anything about Taylor, it’s that she loves hiding clues not only in the lyrics of her songs but also in album art, Instagram photos, music videos, and more. Could “Summer’s a knife” be a line from her song “Cruel Summer?” Probably. We enjoy spending hours theorizing about what the musician is up to, and these two tees may very well be hinting at something we’ll hear when Lover officially drops on Friday, August 23.
